Entry to the Painted Hall for Two Adults

Basking in 18th-century history, the Painted Hall at the Old Royal Naval College conjures up a world of architectural magnificence. Displaying one of the most spectacular and significant baroque interiors in Europe, guests can make their way through a sequence of three unique rooms; the domed Vestibule, the Lower Hall and finally the Upper Hall – each of which provide a theatrical and distinctive space. Envisioned by British artist Sir James Thornhill between 1707 and 1726, an explorer map will guide and inform guests on the visual representations of Britain’s place in the world at the start of the 18th-century. Using a variety of techniques to enliven his paintings, Thornhill has managed to paint a vivid and gripping picture of British history whilst delighting all those who lay eyes upon it.
