Gliding Flight in Devon

Head to the clouds and enjoy the pure tranquillity of an aerotow gliding flight. On arrival, a qualified instructor will talk through safety, the aircraft and the flight ahead. Next it's time to board a dual-controlled glider ready for take-off. Get towed to heights of around 2,000 ft and enjoy the picturesque scenery, before the rope is dropped and the glider soars tranquilly in the thermal currents. During the flight, the pilot will hand over the controls so sample the joy that goes with flying an aircraft.

• Availability Description

  Saturday, Sunday and bank holiday afternoons from Good Friday until the end of September. We recommend booking at least four weeks in advance, even earlier for summer dates.

• Participant Guidelines

  Maximum height is 6'4''. Maximum weight is 17 stone. Minimum age:16 years. You can't fly if you suffer from epilepsy, fainting or certain other physical or mental disabilities - check when booking.

• Weather

  Gliding is weather dependent. It is crucial to call the club for a weather check and to confirm the time of the flight between 8am and 9.30am on the day (or the day before if travelling far).

• Duration Detail

  The length of glider flights depends entirely on the prevailing thermals (currents of warmer air that provide the lift). As a guide, this aerotow flight lasts between 12 and 20 minutes.

• Numbers On The Day

  The briefing may be shared, the flight will be held on a one-to-one basis with the instructor.

• Dress Code

  Wear flat-soled shoes and bring a jumper in case it gets cold at higher altitudes. Sunglasses are recommended all year round.

  All our vouchers are fully flexible and can be redeemed against our huge range of experiences. Your experience includes a 12–20 minute flight in a glider with a full safety briefing and tutorial. Your voucher is valid for one person. Available on selected Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays throughout the year. Minimum age: 14 years. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. Minimum height is 4'6". Maximum height is 6'3". Maximum weight is 15st. This experience is weather dependent; please contact the supplier on the morning of your flight to check that it is still going ahead. Spectators are welcome. All dates are subject to availability.
